Since my childhood I have been fascinated by the world of the arts. Used to draw everything when I was very little and people said I was quite good. At the age of 8/9 Pokemon appeared in my life and I started drawing Pokemon. Later I created my monsters and played with them - created all kinds of stories, everyday - and then I began writing some of the stories down on my computer - my imagination was big - . And that time was when my passion for acting and music started. About the acting scene, I just loved to make stories and pretend I was the characters. In music I wanted to make something new, then I made my FIRST song at the age of 10/11, I think - I don't really remember it but I used to sing it to someone who has still got a bit of it on her mind - it was a ballad. Then I wanted to make more and more, originals in sound and lyrics - one of them was "Go Upstairs" which was about going to somewhere scary (I don't remember where I got the inspiration! Maybe I was trying to be a songwrite-storyteller and I thought it was original and unique...).
When I moved from Oporto to a small town called Amarante, I met Avril Lavigne whose musics I loved and sang everyday, and then a children TV show called Viva S Club got my attention and made S Club my fav band. I was amazed and wanted to have a band! I talked with my friends, they wanted too, but not so seriously as me - I usually take everything I want very seriously and I'm very ambicious - and so, to have a band, I continued composing songs but this time with a propose to be like S Club: catchy melodies and stuff. Every year my acting and singing skills were improving with the practice, although it was just pretending and playing with myself in my bedroom.
When I was in the 9th grade I decided to enter in a amator acting company - T'Amaranto - where until this date I have played 3 roles in the 3 plays I entered - 1 extra (my first year) and 2 secondary roles. My acting skills improved a lot, specialy the projection of my voice while on stage and articulation of my lips. There I met my now-best friend Ivo, and we made a company on our own, with lots of friends - we did it, we wrote, produced and presented a play without any adult help - and we're planning a new one for June 2008. He is in a theatre course and he's one of my "teachers" so he taught me most of the things I know about preparing for stage and taking care of my voice - he taught me articulation tecnics, breathing with our tum (not our chest), and many others which I think I've learned well and can do it almost perfectly (yeah, I need more practice).
In the music scene I entered in 2 school festivals (never won one though) and last year's festival I sang Anything But Ordinary by Avril Lavigne. Who haven't heard me sing before said they were very surprised and that everybody loved it and fascinated with it. But it was in that play (a musical) with Ivo where everybody noticed my voice and asked me to sing for them live everytime they were with me (specialy Disney's "A Whole New World" and Avril Lavigne's "Slipped Away" - two of the musics I sang on that musical - and Switchfoot's "Only Hope" which I recorded with a real friend of mine, Tatiana). At that time I wasn't much into S Club anymore, I was addicted to Pop-Rock, Pop-Punk, Alternative Rock, Grundge and that kind of stuff a bit heavier. I was now getting a new style.
Later a bit, December 2007 I "met" a new computer program and lots of plug ins where I could make music like in a studio. And then, with that music program and my headset I recorded a new version of one of the first songs I made - "Everywhere You Go". As soon as I put it on myspace and show it to friends the song was an hit and went across friends of friends, and friends of that friends of friends, mothers, many people I didn't know and never saw in my life. Comments were usually that my voice and music were great. A week later I wanted to make an experience, used the piano and cello plug ins, and made a new song "What Should I Do" - a little melancolic, but the same feeling I used when I first made it in my early ages (12/13 yo). At that time I showed it to my school mates and they fell in love with the songs, specially What Should I Do. The song went through the same people who heard about Everywhere You Go - believe it or not, they said I had a fan club in Brazil, haha - . Then I re-made my first recorded song ever: "Go Upstairs" with a Alternative Rock style and new metaphoric lyrics about taking a new step in your life. And in the new year (2008) I recorded a recent-made song "When It's Meant To Be" - a ballad about a forbidden love. School took much of my time later and only in March 2008 I recorded a also re-made song "Misunderstandings" - a catchy melody song with a between-Vivace-allegrissimo tempo beat which talks about every bad relationships which people don't really know what love is - .
All musics were recorded with a headset, and the instrumentals with Sonar 7 and many VST plug-ins, so we can notice some hiss specially in the higher notes. I'm an amator in this production thing, but I think I did very well with what I have. But I need real money, real studio, real production support for me to make it great.
In the future I pretend to go live to UK (or USA, but UK's easier for me and I think I have the same opportunities) for college and for my career. I'm thinking about going to an acting course with musical theatre preparation - which means I can have voice/singing classes.
One final note I wanted to say is that I think I deserve an oportunity, I worked too hard and I'm still working on it.
Another final note was about "Misunderstandings", which I think is a great song, but I noticed some breathing difficulties you will surely notice. It's because it's too fast. But i did what I could in one day and I know it's a sample so people can hear what I made, so don't get too hard on me lol.
Thank you, and I'll update this biography someday when I have more to tell.
Hugs n Ties,
FilipeX
P.S.: I didn't get into personal details because I don't think I need to.
